The Somali Women Journalists Organization (SWJO) is pleased to present its latest baseline study on gender balance in Somali media. This study provides a comprehensive assessment of how women and men are represented across news content, programming, and editorial practices in media houses nationwide.
The findings highlight existing gaps, emerging progress, and the critical need for institutional reforms to ensure equitable and inclusive journalism. This research forms the foundation for SWJO’s ongoing gender-tracking initiatives and capacity-building workshops with media houses, supporting a more balanced and representative media landscape in Somalia.
