Press Release: Concern Over Arrest of Himilo TV Journalists in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Somalia – October 13, 2025

The Somali Women Journalists Organization (SWJO) expresses deep concern over the detention of two journalists from Himilo TV — Director Ahmed Mohamed Adam (commonly known as Jubba) and Deputy Director Khadar Abdirahim Ibrahim (Khadar Nasri) — who have been held in custody for more than 20 hours without clear explanation.

According to initial reports, both media professionals were arrested in Mogadishu on October 12, 2025, and remain detained as of this statement. The reason for their arrest has not been officially communicated by authorities.

SWJO emphasizes that the detention of journalists without due process undermines freedom of the press and the constitutional rights of media professionals in Somalia. We urge the relevant authorities to immediately clarify the circumstances surrounding the arrest and ensure the release of the detained journalists unless legitimate legal grounds are presented in accordance with Somali law.

The organization reiterates its commitment to defending journalists’ safety, dignity, and independence, and calls on all media stakeholders, civil society partners, and the international community to stand in solidarity with Somali journalists facing intimidation and unlawful detention.
