SWJ Opens Training on Hostile Environment and First Aid for Female Journalists in Mogadishu
Somali Women Journalists (SWJ) in collaboration with US Embassy opened three-day training for 15 female journalists from different media houses in Mogadishu.
This training focuses on how best media stories can be developed and reported from areas of high-risk and the precaution measures the journalists have to employ during reporting from hostile and conflict zones.
SWJ deputy chairlady, Nasrin Mohamed Ibrahim who officially opened the training encouraged the attendees to work hard during and after the workshop and take advantage of the important lessons on safety and conflict sensitive journalism.
Nasrin said the workshop will build the skills and the expertise of the female journalists stressing that the female journalists can cover and report stories from hazardous areas same as male journalists.
The training facilitator, Ahmed Ali Sharif urged participants to make good use of the training that focuses on the safety of the journalists. Sharif emphasized that ”the training will equip the 15 female journalists with the necessary skills that should be employed while reporting from hostile environments as well as the first aid which is also important for such conditions.”
The trainess thanked SWJ and US Embassy for conducting such an important training and promised to acquire knowledge that will enable them to work effectively. They have asked for more trainings on similar subjects in relation to their daily activities.
Late last year, Somali Women Journalists has conducted training on Digital Media and Storytelling for Somali female journalists drawn from different regions in Somalia.
