SWJO holds a roundtable discussion on gender declaration agreement today in Dhuusa-mareeb.

Dhuusa-mareeb, Somalia-Somali Women Journalists Organization (SWJO) in partnership with IMS-fojo held a roundtable discussion today in Dhuusa-mareeb. More than 23 participants of government officials, media directors and female journalists from different cities in Galmudug-state have attended the meeting.

SWJO has signed with media owners and directors a seventeen article of gender declaration agreement in 2018. Once a year, SWJO flows up the fulfillment made of this agreement. This is the second roundtable discussion -first one being held in Garowe- which is to flow up the fulfillment that has been achieved by the media houses in 2022.

Participants have discussed challenges female journalist still deal with in the field. The participants have also conceded some of the gender declaration agreement has been implemented. However, because of the circumstances media houses work some of the agreement has been difficult to be implemented such as maternity leaves and breast-feeding rooms for female journalists.

On their opening remarks minister of information of Galmudug-state, Ahmed Shire Flagle, MPs Anab Osoble and Mohamoud Mire have all welcomed this roundtable discussion and assured helping female journalists and acknowledged the challenges they face.

SWJO is hugely confident to be fully implemented all the articles on the gender declaration agreement.
