DHUSA-MAREEB- Somali women Journalists Organization in partnership with IMS-FOJO on Monday launched a three-day round table discussion for 25 media workers in Dhusa-mareeb town, the administrative capital of Galmudug state.
Participants drawn from the various media houses in Dhusa-mareeb attended the workshop that focused on Somalia new media law which is aimed to record the concerns of the journalists on the media law that was signed into law by the president.
During the 3-day workshop, the participants will have detailed discussions on the provisions of the law and contribute their views and concerns on its articles in a bid to facilitate the review and the amendment on the law in order to make it inclusive and comprehensive law that integrates gender aspects in all its provisions.
Run Mohamud Osman, SWJO representative in Dhusa-mareeb who opened the event welcomed the trainees to the workshop. While highlighting the importance of the round table discussion, Osman asked the participants to actively take part in the discussions and contribute their views on the articles of the media law that affect their lives.
“The aim of the round table discussions is to give the journalists a platform where they can discuss and contribute their views on Somalia media law. The outcomes of these discussions will be incorporated into the amendment of the law” says Run.
“Your participation is very important because it will help you understand the law well hence express your views on the areas of the law that restricts your freedom” adds Run.
The workshop would pave way for debates and conversations among the journalists and they present their views and concerns especially women in media on the new media law.
Similar round table discussions were held in Mogadishu, the capital city and Garowe, Baidoa, Jowhar and Kismayo towns, the administrative seats of federal member states.
