How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she–roes

8th March is internationally celebrated as the “International Women’s Day”. It is an important occasion for all of us to pause for a moment to reflect on ourselves, to appreciate how much has been done and what more needs to be done in the field of gender equality. Moreover, it is the day to acknowledge all the men and women in the world for making this world a better place for everyone to live in.

Today which was 7thMarch a Pre –International Women’s Dayevent took place in Makkah Al Mukarama Hotel in Mogadishu City.  The program would not have been a great success without the help of Banadir Chapter chaired by Aisha Barhood and UN Women Somalia.

As we know the day is acknowledged on 8th but the event took place one day before due to limit of chances for the organizations that managed to bring forward such an important event to the crowd and celebrate with them.

The days program started off by the director of Banadir Chapter who really caught the attention of the ladies and creating awareness of their importance in the society, followed by FadumoQasimDayib UN Women Representative who put too much effort  to take place in the event by being in the call. Our representatives in the Parliament namely; Hon NuriyeAadn, Hon SagalBuxiye ,Hon FarhiyaMumin Ali  highly attended the event to listen and share views .

Among other associates as SWJ team we took part in the event to observe and celebrate with our fellow ladies. It has been such a fruitful day.

Quote of the Day for SWJ Team: “Women are leaders everywhere you look–from the CEO who runs a Fortune 500 company to the housewife who raises her children and heads her household. Our country was built by strong women and we will continue to break down walls and defy stereotypes.”
