Mogadishu, 11/04/2020:- The Somali Women Journalist is appalled and condemns the manner in which the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism advertised two vacant positions available at the Somali National Television SNTV to be applied by female journalists.
The requirements by the Ministry include height, weight and TV appearance as well as an excellent broadcasting voice accompanied by an appealing attractive body.
The Somali Women Journalist Organizations is astonished by the above requirements and reject it due to the following reasons.
- The requirements are discrimination and inequality within female journalists and deny their rights to compete for jobs regardless of their appearance;
- There are no standard telegenic that is used for the selection of journalists, also there is no connection between the height and appearance of TV broadcaster;
- These requirements not only sexist in nature but also a clear violation of women
in media / female journalists.
In this regard, the Somali Women Journalist Organization calls upon the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism to apologize and rectify the error.
