Somali women Journalists Organization (SWJO) in partnership with IMS-FOJO today launched a three-day round table discussion for 25 media workers in Kismayo the administrative capital of Jubbaland.
Participants drawn from various media houses in Kismayo attended the workshop about Somalia new media which is aimed to record the concerns of the journalists on the media law which signed into law by the president.
During the 3-day workshop, the participants will have detailed discussions on the provisions of the law and voice their concerns on the articles in a bid to facilitate the review and the amendment on the law in order to make it an inclusive and comprehensive law that integrates gender aspects in all its provisions.
Zahra Bishar Abdirahman, SWJO representative in Kismayo welcomed and introduced to the participants the workshop and its objectives while noting the importance of the training. She urged the participants for an active participation.
“The purpose of this workshop is to present the views and the concerns of the journalists on the new media law so that it can be incorporated into the review and the amendment of the law that was signed by the president. You have to participate actively in the discussions and contribute your views in this important event” said Zahra.
The workshop would pave way for debates and conversations among the journalists and the presentation of views and concerns of their especially women in media on the new media law.
Similar round table discussions were held in Mogadishu, the capital city and Garowe, the administrative capital of Puntland state.
