Somali Women Journalist Organization finishes the second phase of workshop on gender content balanced in media.

Mogadishu, Somalia- Somali Women Journalists’ organization in partnership with International Media Support (IMS) finishes a second phase of workshop on gender content balanced in Mogadishu, today. Media directors, Producers, reports from different media houses and independent content creators and journalists were among the attendees of this workshop.

The two-day-workshop will address in-depth on the importance gender balanced content creation and ways in which media benefit from diverse perspectives while reflecting realities on the ground.

Farhia Kheyre, SWJO’s chairperson, stated in her opening remarks -the workshop is instrumental in advancing women’s voice and perspectives in the media. Ms. Kheyre has also thanked the participants for their attendance and their willingness to learn and change for the good the society.

IMS’s program coordinator, Abukar Albadri, has underlines in his opening remarks, the imperativeness of including the women’s perspective in content creation for gender parity in society and for lasting peace.

Participants have acknowledged the gender disparity in our media content and shown consensus in advancing and encouraging women to be part –the content creations. Media practitioners have also stated Women are better in storytelling and content creation— however, they lack the willpower in pursue of that or given the opportunity.

The first phase of this workshop was held in Baidao, Somalia on 21 and 22 Oct. it will also be held in Dhuusamareeeb and Beledweyne.
