
Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Mogadishu– Somali women journalists’ organization (SWJO) in partnership with International media support (IMS) holds gender declaration agreement’s review and update validation meeting with over 40 media houses representatives and Journalists (both male and female).
This event follows after a consultation meeting with female journalists and a review and update session with gender media expert to make additional points to the declaration

Abukar Albadri, IMS’s program coordinator has stated, in his opening remarks, gender declaration agreement has been instrumental for the benefits to create a healthy working environment for all. We are at point where it is needed to revise and validate that revision and update as well as bolster their implementation, he added.

Media houses representatives have shown consensus to the additional points and have agreed to sign the updated version of the gender declaration agreement.

Farhia Kheyre, SWJO’s chairperson stated, in her closing remarks, the significance of the revised and updated gender declaration agreement version and has thanked the participants for their patience and inputs for the meeting willingness to improve Somali media sector/ houses.

SWJO has created the gender declaration agreement back in 2019, where media experts and female media practitioners have formulated 19 points of gender declaration to change the working conditions of women in the media. SWJO has got media houses (49) across the country to sign the declaration the following year (2020) and has held follow up roundtable discussions forward years across the country.
