13th November, 2023- Mogadishu, Somalia -Somalia Women Journalists Organization (SWJO) launches four months long comprehensive training on enhancing video editing and graphic design skills for 20 female journalists in partnership with US embassy in Mogadishu, Somalia.
This training will upskill female journalists in the field with necessary skills and enable them to produce high-quality multimedia content that can advance their careers and positively impact media organizations and their audiences, stated, SWJO’s chairperson Farhia Kheyre in her opening remarks. Ms. Kheyre went on to thank the US embassy for their support of this training.
Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Daud Aweis, who opened the training sessions officially, praised the importance of such training and underlined the need to upskill females in the journalism profession as the world is becoming more competitive, in his opening keynote.
Astaan media’s CEO, which is hosting this training, Abdimanaan, the emphasized the essentiality of this training and how it is instrumental for the journalism profession. Mr. Abdinaan, went on to encourage the training and gave success stories of other female journalists.
SWJO is determined to address the gender gap in Somalia’s media industry by conducting comprehensive trainings and empowering female journalists with the necessary skills in all aspects of the journalism profession and advocating their rights for equality and equitable pay as well as suitable working environment.
